Questions and answers
Let's make it clear.
Short answers about the app, what is free, what a plan costs and how it differs from Big Maths at Home.
Getting started
Is the app available yet?
The app is available now on Android. Get it on Google Play and register your free account to get started.
What ages is it for?
Children aged 4 to 11. The app starts from what your child knows, not from their school year.
Does my child's school need to use Big Maths?
No. The app works independently of any school and has its own account.
Does the app teach new maths?
Adults explain new ideas. The app finds out what your child can do, gives them practice and gives you information that helps you decide what to explain next.
Will my child see marks or a timer?
No. Children see encouragement, their Progress Tree and Learn Its medals. The app does not show scores, rankings or a clock to beat.
What do CLIC and Learn Its mean?
They are the two kinds of practice in the app. Read our short explanation.
Free access and plans
What can we use for free?
The Baseline and the first Challenge Set are free. Your child can keep practising their current CLIC level and continue Learn Its without payment, while you follow their progress in your parent account. A paid plan unlocks new CLIC levels.
Why do you ask for a card if it is free?
Adult setup requires a payment card, with £0 charged. Free access does not automatically turn into a paid subscription.
What does a paid plan cost?
£4.80 a month or £48 a year for one child. £3 per child a month, or £30 per child a year, for two to six children. £120 a year for a private tutor with up to twenty pupils. Prices include VAT. See plans and prices.
How do I cancel or delete my account?
You manage your plan in the account portal. You can also delete your account at any time.
The Big Maths family
Is this the same as Big Maths at Home?
No. Big Maths at Home is a website with weekly Beat That! challenges, and it is free if your child's school subscribes to Big Maths Online. Big Maths Beat That! is a separate app for daily practice. It finds your child's starting point and shows you where to help. You can find Big Maths at Home at bigmaths.com.
Is this the same as Big Maths Online?
No. Big Maths Online is the platform schools use. A school login does not work in the app.
